Privacy and Security

Maintaining the security and privacy of the information you submit to us is one of our foremost concerns. We have committed substantial resources to ensure that your ordering experience not only convenient, but also safe and secure.

Security

When you submit your billing information to us, the data are encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. This means that even in the unlikely event the transmission is intercepted, the information it contains would be useless.

In addition, the authenticity of our website during the secure transaction is verified using a digital ID, or "certificate," obtained from Thawte. When you connect to our secure server, your web browser examines this certificate to verify its authenticity.

When you submit credit card information with your order, it is immediately encrypted and moved to a secure location along with the rest of your order. Once we have processed your order, this information is deleted from our records. We do not store credit card numbers.

Privacy

Any information you submit with your order stays in our organization, unless you have specifically given us permission to give your name and address to other organizations in our field. We will never sell or give away your name, address, or other personal data without your permission.

Cookies

It is a common misconception that web browser "cookies" allow websites to gain access to personal information about a user. This is not the case. A cookie is a small piece of data that is received by your web browser from a web server and stored on your hard drive. These data help the web server keep track of your preferences, browsing sessions, or other information. Sometimes these data are used by website managers to get a better sense of how their website is being used. Cookies set by one webserver cannot be read by another.

In our case, we use a cookie to track your order. This cookie contains a unique identification number and ensures that we don't mix up your order or bill you incorrectly. This number is meaningless except to our ordering system. It cannot be used to gain access to any of the information you submitted with your order. The cookie we set is erased automatically when you submit your order.

If you have any questions, please write to sales@eric.uoregon.edu, or phone (800) 438-8841, extension 1.
